Student Night at AEG Oregon


Student Night is your chance to step into the spotlight, practice presenting your research, and get real-world feedback from professionals in geology, engineering geology, and beyond. Whether you’re polishing a senior project, diving into your master’s thesis, or tackling a PhD dissertation, this is the perfect stage to share your hard work.

Who Can Join?
Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students in geology, earth sciences, or related fields

Poster Topics:
If it connects to geology or earth science, it belongs here! Projects don’t have to be local to Oregon. Topics may include environmental, engineering, soils, field mapping, GIS, technology, geochemistry, and more.

How to Participate:
Submit an abstract of your poster topic by early May by email. Space is limited to the first 30 posters submitted. Each accepted submittal will receives a $25 gift card.

  • Best Graduate Poster – $250
  • Most Relevant to Engineering Geology Practice – $200
  • Most Relevant to Environmental Geology Practice– $200
  • Best Quality Presentation – $150

AEG National Awards


Student Professional Paper Award – Paper submittals due by May 1. This award acknowledges the professional written work of student members through the Student Professional Paper Award, which is given to an undergraduate and graduate student for the best professional paper. The winning papers are published in the Environmental & Engineering Geoscience journal and each student receives a cash award at the Annual Banquet.

Outstanding Student Chapter Award – Application packet due June 15. The AEG Board of Directors established the Outstanding Student Chapter award in 2001 to honor the AEG Student Chapter judged to have excelled over all others in a given year. The award is AEG’s way of recognizing a Student Chapter for its outstanding performance. 

Douglas R. Piteau Outstanding Young Member Award – Nominations due March 15. This award is presented to an outstanding member of the Association who is below the age of 35 who has excelled singly or in combination in technical accomplishments, service to the Association and/or service to the engineering geology profession. 

The PSU Chapter won the 2025 Outstanding Student Chapter award
from AEG! Student Chapter President Blue Hansen accepted the
award.

PSU has received this award 8 times since 2002. Winning in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, and 2016.
